Mold Issues

Health Concerns:

Molds have the potential to cause health problems. Molds produce allergens (substances that can cause allergic reactions), irritants, and in some cases, potentially toxic substances (mycotoxans). Inhaling or touching mold or mold spores may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Allergic responses include hay fever-type symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rash (dermatitus). Allergic reactions to mold are common. They can be immediate or delayed. Molds can also cause asthma attacks in people with asthma who are allergic to mold. In addition, mold exposure can irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs of both mold-allergic and non-allergic people. Symptons other than the allergic and irritant types are not commonly reported as a result of inhaling mold.
Children's Health Initiative: Toxic Mold Outbreaks of the fungi Stachybotrys(s. chartarum) are under investigation for an association with deaths of infants in Cleveland, Ohio, and are serious health problems in other areas of the U.S.

What We Do:

NH Home Inspection, LLC has been certified as a Mold Inspector by PRO-LAB/SSPTM, Inc. (an accredited laboratory of The American Industrial Hygiene Association) of Weston, FL. (Laboratory ID: 163230)
NH Home Inspection, LLC provides non-invasive inspection for the presence of mold within the premises of the home. If mold growth is suspected, we will perform, at your request, the following:

* A minimum of three (3) mold samplings will be taken. The samplings will consist of air-borne type or culturette swab type, or a combination of both. Air-borne sampling is recommended because it has been proven to have an exceptionally uniform collection trace. One (1) air-borne sampling will be taken from the outside in order to establish a base-line for proper analysis.
* Upon completion, the mold samplings will be remitted to Pro-Lab, Inc. for proper analysis. To assure expeditious results, all samplings are sent via FedEx, overnight.
* Normally (excluding weekends or holidays) the results are returned to NH Home Inspection, LLC within two (2) business days.
* Upon receipt, the results of the mold samplings are forwarded onto you, the customer, via e-mail.

What You Will Receive:

* Each mold sampling has an analysis conducive to that particular sample, but relative to the other samples taken on the same day.
* Each mold sampling analysis will consist, normally, of 3-4 pages.
* The analysis for each sampling will state: "Elevated Mold Condition Exist: YES or NO".

* Each mold sampling analysis will contain the TYPES of mold(s) contained in the sampling,
* The SPORE COUNT by individual spore type, and
* The TOTAL SPORE COUNT for all spore types within that particular sample.
* Each sample analysis will compare all spore type counts to the outside or baseline sample analysis.

UPON RECEIVING THE MOLD ANALYSIS REPORTS:
Upon receipt of your Mold Analysis reports, it is suggested that copies be submitted to YOUR medical professional and allow him/her to determine if the types and/or spore counts may be detrimental to your health.
Additionally, should you determine that mold remediation is warranted, it is advisable to request a minimum of three (3) quotes from Mold Mitigation companies, that reference checks be made and that a copy of the Mold Analysis reports be provided to the companies so that a proper and viable approach to remediation can be forcoming.

IMPORTANT: If the mold mitigation company suggests to you that they perform their own samplings, beware! A conflict of interest exists. A third party should be doing the sampling. Too often a mitigation company will charge you for something you've already done in order to 'convince' you that mitigation, by them, be performed. Additionally, do NOT allow the mitigation company to 're-sample' once they have supposedly mitigated the mold. NH Home Inspection would be more than willing to 're-sample, as a third party, to assure you that the mold is gone!
